Soberphone (“we,” “our,” “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the Soberphone app or website.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Tech-use goals and related app settings
  • Supporter phone numbers (only when you choose to invite them)

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Operate and improve the Soberphone app
  • Send user initiated notifications
  • Invite Supporters that you select
  • Deliver SMS messages you have opted into
  • Provide customer support
  • Maintain security and prevent misuse

We do not share mobile contact information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information may be shared with subcontractors in support services, such as customer service. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

3. SMS messaging

Soberphone sends SMS text messages only after explicit opt-in inside the app.

Users see this message during goal setup: “By clicking Confirm Goal, I agree to receive text messages from Soberphone. I agree that Soberphone may send text messages to my chosen Supporters when I create or exceed a goal. Reply STOP to unsubscribe. Message & data rates may apply.” Users must tap Confirm Goal to authorize SMS messaging.

Supporters may receive:

  • A one time invitation
  • Occasional notifications when the user exceeds goals they chose to share

Supporters may opt out anytime by replying STOP. Replying HELP provides support information.

We do not send marketing or promotional SMS.

4. Sharing of information

We only share information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate Soberphone (e.g., SMS delivery, hosting)
  • Law enforcement when required by law

We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

5. Data security

We use industry standard security measures to protect your information. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your data safe.

6. Your choices

You may:

  • Update your information
  • Remove Supporters

Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This removes your profile, your goals and progress, your Supporter connections, and your uploaded photos from our systems, and removes your analytics profile.

Some records may persist for a limited period: usage events already recorded by our analytics provider, and your email address held by our email provider. If you want those erased as well, email contact@soberphone.io and we will process the request.

You can also email contact@soberphone.io to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to object to how it is used.

7. Children’s privacy

Users must be 13 or older to create an account. Parents or guardians may use Soberphone to support a child under 13.

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental involvement.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If material changes are made, we will notify users in the app or on our website.

Third-party services we use

We rely on a small number of outside companies to run Soberphone. Each one receives only what it needs to do its job.

Google (Firebase)
Does: Accounts and sign-in, database, file storage, push notifications, crash reporting, analytics.
Receives: Phone number, email address, name, profile photo, your goals and progress, app usage.
Twilio
Does: Delivers text messages to your Supporters.
Receives: Your phone number, your Supporters' phone numbers, and the contents of those messages.
Customer.io
Does: Sends account emails, such as sign-in links.
Receives: Email address, name.
Mixpanel
Does: Product analytics, how people move through the app.
Receives: A random device identifier, your account identifier, and in-app actions. Never your phone number or email address.
RevenueCat
Does: Manages subscriptions and purchases.
Receives: Subscription status and purchase identifiers.
Apple
Does: App distribution, in-app purchases, push delivery.
Receives: Purchase records, device push token.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising networks, data brokers, or cross-app tracking.

Analytics

We measure how Soberphone is used so we can improve it — which screens people reach, where they get stuck, and which features actually help.

Analytics events are linked to a random device identifier, and once you create an account, to your account identifier. We never send your phone number or your email address to our analytics tools.

We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not ask for tracking permission, we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not record your screen.

Where your data is processed

Soberphone is operated from the United States, and our providers store and process data on servers in the United States.

If you use Soberphone from outside the United States, including from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, those transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards in our agreements with each provider.
